James Lileks’ “Interior Desecrations: Horrible homes from the Brass Age of American Design”

Better Homes and Gardens 1975

Does choosing colors cause you to break out in hives? Here in the studio, we exhaustively search (ie; we slouch in front of the computer with a soda while the paint is drying on the sample boards.) for fabulous new ideas and trends.
So much in art and design is built on what came before. Greek architecture, the beautiful glass and gold of the Egyptians, the clean, bold colors of Asian design.
Today, we bring you a book (and website) that mines the WORST of American design. Why? ‘Cause – it’s FUNNY! Never be afraid to experiment with color. You couldn’t possibly do any worse than this!

Idea Paint in a conference room

Idea Paint in a conference room

I came across this one coat dry-erase paint a couple of weeks ago and have been dying to find a wall in the studio to try it out! As connoisseurs of all things paint, this has got to be one of the coolest paints we’ve ever seen. Can you think of anything better to keep a bunch of squirrely artists on task? Ten-foot-tall “to-do” lists here we come!

Happy Mother’s Day from a Mom in love with her job…

Posted in Inspiration at 1:06 am by tesoropaint

The day began beautifully. Kisses from my children, coffee and breakfast in bed. My son even made a “Time” Magazine with a picture of me on the the cover as “mom of the year”. Inside he listed and illustrated everything I do for him that makes me a great mother in his seven-year-old eyes. The drawings alone made his artist Mama proud! But the day got  even better from there…

My husband told me to take the day and do whatever I wanted. He suggested a massage, a chick flick or perhaps one of the many novels collecting dust on my library shelves. So of course, I grab my laptop and a second cup of coffee and I get to work.

Why on earth, you ask, when presented with the choice between a massage and a chick flick, would I choose  to work?  The answer is simple. As a working mom in a creative field, what I lack more than ever is the downtime to just create. Days go by in a blur of emails, consultations, bookeeping and phone calls.  But all of those actions, while vital to the growth of my business, do not feed the soul.

Today my husband handed me time on a platter and I made the most of it! As for the fruits of my creative labors on this beautiful day… Stay tuned! Recipes for some hot new finishes, complete with instructional videos are one their way. Don’t worry, I’ll thank my wonderful family for you!
